Protecting your business from intruders

95 en RKP

Defence have installed over 4000 systems each one individual - let's break it down - door contacts to all external doors, movement detection in key rooms or areas we feel intruders will travel through, vibration sensors or breakglass detection for early warning, Smoke systems filling rooms with smoke thus preventing the intruder from seeing - connection to a monitoring station for Police or Key holder response.

Performance and design

Bell Box

Defence provide all systems using quality materials - however, it is the performance and design of the system which is critical - if the system has false alarms the Police will withdraw their support and will not attend, this can effect your insurance - choosing the correct supplier is a business critical decision.

Legislation and Standards

ACPO Policy.

This policy relates to Police response to monitored intruder and personal attack alarms in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The policy imposes response levels and false alarm thresholds to reduce the number of false alarms that the Police attend

EN standards PD6662 and EN50131

PD6662 and EN50131 apply to Intruder & Panic Attack (Hold-Up) Alarm Systems, replacing BS4737, BS7042 & BS6799 from 1st October 2005. This affects how intruder and panic attack alarm systems are designed, installed, operated and maintained.

Alarm confirmation technology

DD243 is not a British Standard, but supplements PD6662 and EN50131 by requiring all new intruder alarms to incorporate 'alarm confirmation technology'.

DD243 was originally introduced in 2002 to tackle two main areas :

Further reducing false alarms during setting/unsetting. Improving the operation of alarm confirmation. It applies to all new systems incorporating confirmed alarm technology and to existing systems, which are off Police response and are being upgraded to confirmed alarm technology to re-gain response.

Note: All new Police calling systems in England, Wales and Northern Ireland must be fitted with alarm confirmation technology. Alarm confirmation is recommended for new systems in Scotland but is not mandatory.

Personal attack (hold-up) alarms whether they are stand-alone or part of an intruder alarm system are not affected by this Draft for Development.
